Our History

The story of New Forest High School begins in 1948 with the establishment of New Forest Elementary School, a humble institution that would grow to become a cornerstone of education in South Manchester, Jamaica. For nearly five decades, this single school served the educational needs of the local community, building a foundation of academic excellence and community pride that continues to this day. Located on the main road from Gutters to Alligator Pond, the school became an integral part of the fabric of South Manchester, serving families across the region. In 1994, recognizing the growing educational needs of the community, the institution evolved into New Forest Primary Junior High and Infant School, expanding its scope to serve students across a broader age range. This transformation marked a significant milestone in the school's development, allowing it to provide more comprehensive educational services to the estimated 2,000 residents of the area. The expansion reflected the community's commitment to education and the school's reputation for nurturing young minds. The most significant chapter in the school's history began in 2015 with the historic separation that created two distinct institutions: New Forest Primary and Infant School, and New Forest High School. This strategic division allowed each institution to focus more intensively on their respective age groups and educational objectives. The newly established New Forest High School was entrusted to the capable leadership of Principal Arnaldo Allen, whose vision and expertise would prove instrumental in shaping the institution's future success. Under Mr. Allen's leadership, New Forest High School quickly distinguished itself as a center of academic excellence and holistic education. The school's commitment to practical, hands-on learning has yielded impressive results, with consistent 75%+ pass rates in multiple CSEC subjects. The institution's growth from offering 14 CSEC subjects to 18, along with the addition of City and Guilds certifications and NCTVET programs, demonstrates its ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its students and the broader community. Today, New Forest High School stands as a testament to the power of educational vision and community support. With strong governance from the Board of Governors, active engagement from the Past Students Association (launched in 2013), and vibrant participation from the Parents' Teachers' Association, the school continues to build upon its rich heritage. As the institution looks toward the future with planned expansions including a new auditorium and educational block, it remains firmly rooted in the values and community spirit that have defined it for over seven decades, truly living up to its motto of 'Soaring to New Heights.'
